Scene, Guide Book

This task was to make a guide book for the Southbank for 16 to 19 year olds. As a class we went to the Southbank centre and collected leaflets  and took photographs of places which would attract the 16 to 19 age group. I used Fireworks to make the guide book because I have used it before and found it easier to use than Pages.
Firstly, I thought about creative media activities on the Southbank for 16 to 19 year olds then I chose places which would be attractive to this age group. I researched on the internet and found images of these creative media activities to use on the guide. I decided to include the London Aquarium, London Eye, Movieum, National Theatre, Royal Festival Hall, skateboading and a map.
On the front cover I used an image of the Southbank which I then put into Fireworks. I used this image on the front because it shows the Southbank and it has bright colours and it looks different which I think will attract 16-19 years old. I wrote the title of the guide in red and gold colours which I think stand out against the background. I used Chancery font, mostly in capital letters, because I liked it and thought it was interesting.
Next, I looked on the internet again and found a background image which I then put on to half a page of Fireworks by using layers. The other half of the page I made a black background. Then I put the image to the London Aquarium into Fireworks and put it on top using layers. I used this image on the second page because it has a bright colours and it looks good and attractive which I think 16 to 19 years old will like. I continued with Chancery font for the writing because I wanted to use the same font for the whole guide. In the heading I chose two colours, blue with a white outline and for the rest of the text I used white. I tried different colours but I decided on white because I think it is clearer to understand than other colours.
For my third page I used the London Eye. I used the images which I had found and I made up the page by using layers. I used four different images including the London Eye, a Christmas tree and the river Thames. I chose these because they show the London Eye and the view across London. I also like them because they are night time pictures which makes the London Eye look more exciting. In the heading I used two colours, red and white which stand out against the background and for the rest of the text I used black and white which I think is clear to read.
On the fourth page I used the Movieum. I used a variety of images and showed lots of information which I had found on the Movieum website.  I took time to decide what to include and where to put them, then I built up the page by using layers. I chose Terminator and Star Wars because I think it will attract the 16 to 19 year olds. I also included the Beatles exhibition because I think the target audience would like to see that. I used the white colour for text because there was already white text in the images which I had used.
For the fifth page I used the National Theatre. I used four images and I used one image of the National Theatre for my background. Two images I used were of the play ' Mixed up North' and one image was of a free exhibition called' Dazzle' about jewellery which I think would attract the 16 to 19 age group. I used white for the text which stands out against the background. On this page I included border designs and images from Brochure which I had started to use for my guide, but then I changed my mind because I couldn't make the flyer with it. I used these images  because I think it makes this page look different and attractive.
For the sixth page I used the Royal Festival Hall. I used the images which I had found and made up the page by using layers. I used two images one for the background and the other of a concert and used mostly white and some green for the Chancery text.
The last creative media activities was Skateboarding and I used four images for this page using layers. I used bright and colourful images to attract the 16 to 19 age group. I used red, white and yellow for the text but there is not much writing on this page because I wanted to make it simple and straightforward.
Lastly, I researched on the internet and found a background image for the back page. Using layers  I put the image on one side of the page and the other side I made black. On top of this I put a map to show where the Southbank is. On this page I wrote information about the website, email address and parking.
Overall I think my guide was  quite successful and I think most of the creative media activities will appeal to the 16 to 19 age group. I gave the right information about the prices, websites, phone numbers and the information on the creative media activities was simple and clear. Researching on the internet for the right information for the creative media activities was interesting but I found it hard to write about them and it took a long time. I learned how to make the guide and flyer. If I had to improve it I would change some of the creative media activities, images and the colour of the text.

How music played?
Dynamics and Accents
Dynamics

All sounds including musical sounds can be barely audible or so loud that they can damage your ears. Musicians often refer to dynamics. Dynamics does not just refer to how loud the sound is but how an orchestra sound is relative. For example, an orchestra will sound much louder than a single violin.
Traditionally dynamic markings are based on Italian words for example: 'Forte' means loud 'Piano' means soft.

Unit 2 The Script 30/11/2009

The Stranger

This is the story of a teenage girl whose life was going smoothly.
Her name was Lauren and she was always on the computer.... in the daytime, after school, she was in an internet cafe' and in the evening she was at home. If she had homework from school or something to study, she was used to do everything at school or late in the night.
One day she was in the internet cafe' (sound effect of a crowded place and someone typing something at the computer. The noise of a crowd and of a door that opens and closes frequently goes throughout the story) when she signed up on a website that changed her life. That website was "FACEBOOK". While Lauren was using Facebook one of her friends entered the cafe to greet her. (Sound effect of a door opening and recorded sound effect of someone walking into a cafe)
"Hi darling are you Ok?"
"Yeah and you?"
"I'm good"
"What are you doing?"
"Oh I'm using Facebook..... I just signed in..... I think you too have to join it"
"Yeah maybe ... but not today... you know some people, and I repeat, some people spend hours studying and now I have to go home."
"Ok sweetie bye" "Go and study!"
"Bye"(sound effect of someone walking out of the cafe and a door that opening and closing)
Everyday Lauren was accumulating many friends on Facebook.
One day she received a friend's request from someone who claimed to be her friend.
She accepted the request.
He wrote her sweet things and she liked it.
"Oh this guy is so sweet! No one has ever been so nice to me!'
She believed all his words. ( There is a pause of 5 seconds: the sound of the crowd and of the door opening and shutting)
One day he decided to ask her for a date .... in his house.
Some day later Lauren's friend called her on her mobile: "Hey... how are you?"
"Fine and you?"
"So so... how I feel depends from what you'll soon tell me!"
"What's the matter?"
"You know the guy you told me about the other day?"
"Yes .... and then?"
"Someone told me ..., correct me if I'm wrong , that he offered to meet you at his house and you accepted... is it true?"
"Who told you that?"
"It doesn't matter.... I just want to know if it's true."
(no sound during these last beats)
"So?"
"Yes,... it's true."
"Are you mad? You don't even know him!"
"Well I don't think it's your business, after all I am the one who has a date!"
"Don't go, you don't really know him....what if something happens to you?...Don't go... ."  She continued telling her this , Lauren always replied saying "Don't worry.... nothing will happen to me!", and at the end her friend gave in.
Lauren liked him and trusted him so much that she was determined to go.
(Recorded sound effect of outdoor sounds of traffic) The day of the date she left home in time. ( The sound of someone walking in a street followed by the sound of someone knocking at a door. Then the noise of a squeaky door opening) lauren entered the man's house and to find it was in darkness................. (recorded sound effect of someone walking in a room. Sound of the door shutting. The sound of a scream) and never came out.

How to make a cd cover by listening to music, Artefact

The university student describes how they made a cd cover as part of their project. They had to listen to music and draw abstract responses to the music. From this they had to create three cd covers. The project was divided into two parts.

Stage 1

In the first part they listen to music and and they had to take an A4 page and draw a simple visual language of what they heard. They could only do this by using simple elements of line, shape and colour. It had to be a non representational, abstract design and they could only use the 6 spectrum colours ( red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple ).Below you can see the 4 visual responses after listening to the music.

  • The first was a slow, smooth, soft and calm watery type song.
  • The second song was a upbeat funky song.
  • The third was a hard rough death metal rock song.
  • Fourth was an electronic digital sounding song.

Stage 2

Then they had to discuss their results with their peers and brainstorm different ideas about what design they are going to choose and finally they chose to do a 3D design.

Nik Ainley

They decided to use one word to describe the type of music that the band played. They then used that word as the main piece on the front cover. They chose the word smooth for the calm music and the word rough for the heavy metal music and the word Digital for the electric music. They used the 3D programme Xara3D, photoshop and illustrator to create the CD cover.

Design Process

In the final design below they decided to use the colours blue and green for the Smooth design, in the Rough design they have used the colour red and in the Digital they have used a bright coloured design.

Process of how cd covers are made, Artefact

Preflight
I found out from this website one process of cd cover design. The first thing to do is to scan the original pictures or images and prepare them for printing. If they are supplied with hard copies or digital copies they will check them.

Design
Design

The designer will go through all the work and then get started on the design. The designer will create a whole package of design to make it better so it looks professionally designed.
They send hard copy proofs to customers to check it and make changes to make it a high standard of work.

Job goes to press

They take time to look over your work carefully and if you are satisfied with your work then they are start printing your work.

They finish the CD, DVD or CD - Rom package so everyone think it's look good and then you can be noticed by your target market and fans.

Jay Sean, Artefact

The CD cover appeals to young people and the background compliments his posh suit. His hair cut looks fashionable because its short and shaped. His face is looking serious and his hand is covering which make him look thoughtful and which make his CD cover interesting. The writing he used on his CD cover is in lower case letters and his name is written clearly at the top. The title of the album is written underneath. AT the bottom is written name of the website.
Jay Sean's real name is kamaljit Singh Jhooti. He is a British pop and R& B singer. He is best known in the UK by his hit songs 'stay, ride it , stolen and tonight'. He released 2 albums which are 'my own way' in 2008 and 'me against myself' in 2004. Jay Sean was born in the Southall neighbourhood in London into an Indian family. His first digital single 'Ride it' was in late 2007 from his second album "my own way". Jay Sean wrote the song "deal with it" for his second album. His song was played over 120,000 radios in America which was one of the most played songs on America radios and was written by a European songwriter and even made him win the BMI songwritter awards.

Imran Khan album, Artefact

This is the cover of Imran khan album Unforgettable.
Source: The cover art can or could be obtained from the record label.
Article: Unforgettable (Imran Khan album)
Protion used: The entire cover: because the image is cover art, a form of product packaging, the entire image is needed to identify the product, properly convey the meaning and branding intended, and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the image.
Low resolution: The copy is of sufficient resolution for commentary and identification but lower resolution than the original cover. Copies made from it will be of inferior quality, unsuitable as artwork on pirate versions or other uses that would compete with the commercial purpose of the original artwork.
Purpose of use: Main infobox. The image is used for identification in the context of critical commentary of the work for which it serves as cover art. It makes a significant contribution to the user's understanding of the article, which could not practically be conveyed by words alone. The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing the work, to show the primary visual image associated with the work, and to help the user quickly identify the work and know they have found what they are looking for.Use for this purpose does not compete with the purposes of the original artwork, namely the artist's providing graphic design services to music concerns and in turn marketing music to the public.
Replaceable: As musical cover art, the image is not replaceable by free content; any other image that shows the packaging of the music would also be copyrighted, and any version that is not true to the original would be inadequate for identification or commentary.
Imran khan is a Pakistani he is bron in panjab and he is a panjabi singer from the Hague in Holland.
He lunched his latest album in 2009 which released in the UK and his album name is "Unforgettable". He start his career when he was twenty.
The CD cover features the singer Imran Khan with the title of the album 'Unforgettable' It looks like the protrail photograph of the singer has been sliced into 9 sections and put together to form one image. this allows to us see him at different angles mostly side shots of his face. His eyes are obsured by dark glasses. the background is black but the main image is slightly obscured with an oval and square shape which has writing in the middle but we cannot see what the writing says. White, red and blue are the main colours. The name of the singer is in white which makes it stand out and it is in block writing. The title of the album is also written in white but in thinner font.
I like the album cover because it is quite colourful and different to anything I've seen before. I think it is clever how his photograph is insections so that we see him from different angles. I think this cover would appeal to young peole because it looks modern. The album cover identifies the product well.

Evaluation of Unit 4- Creating a record 3 Nov 2009

The atmosphere of the Batman film is dark and mysterious. The character of Batman is also serious, dark and threatening. The record I have created is a music underscore for the opening credits of Batman the Movie.
Firstly, I listen to different musical instruments to see how they sound and then I chose the ones I liked. I started with one sound of a string violin because it was slow and with a piano at first but I rejected this because I didn't like the sound. Then I introduced another 6 sounds: Electric Grind bass, Bluesy acoustic guitar, Warped bass Low rent, 2 String ensembles, Warped drum Trance kit and String Violin. As the Batman credit came on I repeated the Grind bass and Bluesy acoustic. I dropped all those sounds and continued with two sounds of Low rent and String ensemble.
In my opening credit I have used String Violin to make it a slow and calm sound and I used bars 1 to 21, 25 to 44 and 48 to 67. For my second instrument I used bars 6 to 18, for the third I used bars 7 to 19, for the fourth I used bars 8 to 20, for fifth and six I used bars 10 to 73 and 74 and for the last instrument I used bars 13 to 21.
For my Batman theme the music is soft, dark and scary. At the end as the 'Gotham City' scene begins the opening gets louder and louder with lots of middle beats from bars 25 to nearly 73. The ending has harder beats to make it dark and scary so it can resemble the Batman theme. The melody is repeated so that it has background theme to make it good . Finally the finishing bar is 74 is made softer and softer.
I found using Logic 8 very hard at first and didn't understand what I had to do because I had never learned music before. Then I was taught how to create music by using Logic 8 and later on I found it easier and interesting to put my own ideas to music. After the opening theme music I made it too loud because I had used too many instruments. If I had to improve on my Batman theme I would change the louder beats to make it sound better and slower. The starting melody was scary and dark but it has different tracks which make it complicated to compare it with original Batman theme music.
